| "Hello! A few weeks ago we bought a Sonnet G3 upgrade for my Power
Mac 7500. It's an early Christmas present from my husband. The lady I spoke
to said it would be easy to install - she certainly was right. I have installed
RAM several times, and put in a new hard drive in the second drive bay myself,
so I'm no stranger to the inside of my computer. This was even easier than

| "WOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!! I had to tweak extensions about and take CC out of the loop. Ethernet was grumpy at first but it is a self healing thing. Zapped PRAM, rebuilt desktop, restored cache settings and turned off VM and Bob's your uncle! Well, I guess he isn't exactly an uncle but pretty close! You guys are terrific and many many thanks for catching my thumbs just before I placed them inextricably into dark recesses. I took your (and Newer's) advice that the upgrade should be done by an authorized techie. It took only an hour and cost only a few tens of dollars. Am I happy? You bet! G3 power in such a small package meets my needs in ways that the new, larger G3 PBs can't touch. G3 210MHz with-caddy MAXpowr for 71/8100 "Barb - I got it! I got it! This morning! It took fifteen minutes to install and move the video card on my 8100/80 AV - How do I get the crowbar out of the CD-ROM slot? It works beautifully and I want to thank you for your patience and hand holding. I'll be back for another one for my 8600 but right now it is fun to see the old 8100 run faster than the 8600! | "My PowerMac 8100/110 is now upgraded to G3 240Mhz with 160Mb of RAM.
Great to have it back up to serious speed again. Took the opportunity to
blow dust out of machine interior with compressed air - looks as good as
new inside. This upgrade has been well worth waiting for despite the lengthy
delays in shipping. With PowerBook 2400c/180, NewerTech has a disclaimer saying that end users shouldn't even consider opening these tiny PowerBooks. Disregarding their advice, and without waiting for the instructions, I went ahead and did the upgrade myself. It's fair to say that this was a non-trivial exercise, but you'll be relieved to learn that there were no spare screws afterwards and that it now goes like an absolute rocket. | "Barb, So far, so good. G3's (NewerTECH 210s for 6100) arrived
today (a day early! what a nice surprise) and I tossed one into a 6100av
in about ninety seconds flat. Nifty. In my (admittedly half-baked) tests
-- viewing some animations, running some 3D games, and applying a few PhotoShop
filters -- the whole machine seemed much much faster indeed. While it's
a bit hamstrung by a smaller, slower hard disk, it still seems to compare
favourable with the Pentium-266 that's across the room. No crashes or naughtiness yet, but I'll let David use it for a couple of days before I officially jump on the bandwagon. Got any more lying on the shelf? If not, what are you now supplying in its place? We have three or four (I forget) more 6100's and a 7100 that could use a boost. Heck, my 7600 is jealous, too. | "Greetings B&B, Got the G3 and the RAID software. Thanks! You don't
get this kind of service from Mac Warehouse! This is my third x100 G3 card and it's still a big kick! My latest story: I dropped in the software, pulled out all the plugs, put the box on the table and opened a beer. Pull the adapter bracket, stuck in the G3, the video card (and a couple of RAM chips for good measure), and slammed the lid back on, reconnected and started up... FAST.. before I finished the beer!The Newer Tech management people obviously are *&^-&^%$#, @#$%^&, %#&^-$%^#*^%; but their engineering is great. The pieces went into the Mac better than the original parts! Best to you both," Terry |

I never thought about that it would be possible to get Windows NT 4 and Windows 95 running on Virtual PC 2.0.1. | "As usual, your advice is extraordinarily sensible. I'm happy to wait, but sign me up early for one of those speed demons. By my reckoning, over the years you've re-added up one of my invoices, advised not to overbuy at least twice, and probably saved me about $3,000. That's why I'm a loyal customer who keeps reordering exclusively from you. By the way, I do have one of the original PowerMac G3s from the Apple Store at home, but the 7500 at work that I keep upgrading (so that it works favorably with the NT4 machine next to it on my desk) is not only the envy of the office, it's turning out to be one of the most flexible machines I've ever worked with - thanks to you. My original Performa has been retired, and the 7100 that I've passed on to my son is too complex for me to upgrade, but the 7500 is as easy as pie to keep current. If the G3 (266MHz) is as easy to upgrade (I've never opened it), I'll probably want two of the 400s when available, assuming compatability. | "I have received the upgrade, 2 days after my ordering (it actually takes only one day, but I wasn't home). The G3 250MHz is screaming. Now I can play quake full screen. Opening windows has no waiting at all. My apple dealer who installes it for me were excited too, since they weren't expecting any to come... By the way, the G3 upgrade (the control panel and extension) is conflicting with apple menu option. It keeps asking where is codefragment manager. Turing off apple menu option solves the problem.
